license
What you can do with what you make on Somasonic. Plain language first. The sections below are the agreement.
the short version
- Playing is free. A recording you download is yours to keep.
- The track pass is for personal use. Studio covers everything else, commercial use included.
- Commercial use means earning from a track, or client work, ads, branded content, and use by or for a company. It is not about how many followers you have.
- Studio has a fair-use ceiling of fifty tracks a month.
- You may not resell the tracks or offer them as a library or service of your own.
- Using a track beyond your plan means buying the license that covers it.
what each plan allows
- free play. Listen to and play every instrument and journey. No recording, no download, no account.
- track pass. Record and download up to ten tracks, each up to thirty minutes, for personal use, not for client or commercial work. Record your own instrument in through the microphone, at 432 or 440. A track counts only when you download it. Re-download anything you bought, any time. Valid for twelve months.
- studio. Unlimited recording and download (fair use up to fifty a month), the full midi route to play and run it in your rig, and a commercial license for all uses: client work, your channels, social, ads, and the courses you sell.
what commercial use means
The track pass is for personal use. Once you earn from a track, or make at volume, it is commercial, and that is studio: client work, your channels, social, ads, and courses, whatever you make it for. It is not measured in followers.
what you keep
A file you download is yours, in full quality, for as long as you have it. Stopping a subscription leaves every file you already made untouched, under the license that applied when you made it.
fair use
Studio is meant for one working person or studio. The ceiling of fifty tracks a month keeps it there and keeps it away from resale at scale. If you need more, write to us and we set up a studio or agency plan.
what you may not do
- resell, redistribute, or bundle the tracks as a stock library or as a service of your own.
- register a track with a content-id or rights system as if you were its rights holder.
- use a track beyond the plan you made it under.
if a track is used beyond its plan
The license that covers the use has to be bought, for studio use retroactively. The plan license may end, and you carry responsibility for any use beyond what your plan allowed.
how the sound works
Somasonic runs in your browser and makes the sound on your own machine as it happens. Every track is generated once and never repeats, and it belongs to no one else, so it will not be claimed or muted the way library music sometimes is.
